Casa Fortunato Lisbon was our first venture into the world of hotels and hospitality, which within the first three months of opening was the starlight of international press: New York Times, Tatler, Vogue, AD, Elle Décor, Monocle, Wallpaper.
Personally created by the owners, Filipa & António of Casa Fortunato, a Lisbon-based architecture and design studio, the duo bring heritage builds back to life with a new sense of purpose and rooted soul, a heartfelt passion evident in this new hotel sibling. Peeling back the chapters of time and neglect, they have restored the villa into a small luxury guesthouse of six uniquely styled bedrooms and suites, a snug dining room and a courtyard garden – the hidden oasis of citrusy verts complete with a strippy plunge pool to chill down the warm summery days.

Bedrooms at Casa Fortunato are not just a place to lay your head, albeit on high thread count Portuguese cotton bedding. The six suites are roomy and light and invite you to unwind, with smooth wooden floors, a white-on-white colour palette, walk-in rain showers and the ultimate homely comfort – windows that open. The original, restored shutters and wooden ceilings are accented in creamy taupe green and flashes of colour come from the minds of our creative designer-owners: brightly hued woven rugs collected from their travels, a Foscarini Filo table lamp here, a Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia sofa there. The Lisbon property, although small, was courted by several potential buyers and was eventually acquired by a like-minded small design-led hotel group as their Lisbon flagship. Lisbon was the template, our hospitality blueprint in creating stand-out concepts that attracted the creative set, and we are about to open our next venture on the coast: Alcácer do Sal, a short drive from Lisbon.
